At Special Power Sources, we are on a mission to provide the most rugged and reliable power protection solutions on the planet. For that reason Special Power Sources is dedicated to creating power solutions that are reliable and strongly supported both in the field and remotely. With clean and reliable power generators Special Power Sources is also able to increase energy efficiency in most any remote application – making for some very powerful possibilities.

Mr. Roland M. Dixon is the President/CEO of Special Power Sources (SPS) LLC, a renewable energy Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) company formerly known as Atrex Energy. Prior to SPS, he was the Director of Business Development at Atrex Energy. He joined Atrex Energy in Sept 2017 after working in positions of increased responsibility for Raytheon over the last 10 years culminating as the Senior Executive for a $2.0B intelligence and surveillance program. Roland had stints at Rockwell Collins and DRS Technologies in marketing, program and operations management. Roland is a retired LTC and an Army Acquisition Corps professional with level 3 certifications in program management and test and evaluation. His noteworthy Army program manager assignments include PM, Air and Command Tactical Trainers (ACTT) in Orlando FL and Joint Surveillance Target Airborne Radar Systems (JSTARS) Test Director in Melbourne FL. Roland Dixon holds a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology with a concentration in Manufacturing from North Carolina A&T State University and a MS degree in Material Acquisition Management from Florida Institute of Technology (FIT). He is the author of STRICOM support to PEO Aviation, published in the Army Aviation magazine in 2001. Roland is married to Brenda Dixon and most proud of graduating all four children from Historically Black Colleges and University (HBCU) with Bachelor degrees. In addition, Roland is an Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship member and actively involved at Jonesville Baptist Church mentoring young men in faith, business acumen and creating your own opportunities in life.

Ted Ohrn

Mr. Ted Ohrn is the Chief Technical Officer of Special Power Sources (SPS) LLC, a renewable energy Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) company formerly known as Atrex Energy. Prior to SPS, he had worked for LG Fuel/Rolls Royce Fuel Cell Systems for 12 years. Ted is a versatile R&D manager and mechanical engineer with over 30 years of experience in technology development and testing. His expertise was formed developing test capabilities from Technology Readiness Levels TRL3 – TRL6, and producing performance and durability data to qualify technology, overseeing model development and application for analysis and design. He has R&D experience with thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and electrochemical analysis. Tes has also been a skilled mentor for test engineers and technicians. Ted is married to Janet Ohrn and has two adult children. He is also a member of the elder board at Alliance Christian Center Church, and a board member of the Alliance Pregnancy Center, both in Alliance Ohio.

Over 12 years of experience working with highly challenging R&D systems, 15+ years of experience in fabrication and assembly of complex systems. A proven track record of successful, high-quality results, in technically challenging and time sensitive settings. Effective at managing several dynamic and technical projects simultaneously.

Commercial Product Leader

Position Description

Special Power Sources is a hypergrowth organization, which means that our core teams and operations infrastructure must constantly be evolving to sustain and further this growth. As a Commercial Product Leader at Special Power Sources, you will work to utilize your high-level customer service and product development skills to help SPS maximize their potential and profitability. Additionally, it is expected that your main duty is to identify consumers’ needs and wants, and then create product plans to help businesses meet the demand. You will be trusted to tackle challenging and impactful problems at Special Power Sources, working directly with the executives to achieve success.

This is an on-site position that will be located in Alliance OH at the Special Power Sources facility. This position reports directly to the SPS President/CEO.


You will work with the SPS Team including the SPS Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Director of Business Operations, SPS engineers and manufacturing team co-located teams to identify areas of highest impact across the company, define engagement scopes, and build comprehensive strategies to solve the underlying issues and execute.

In this role, you will partner with executives and other senior leaders to achieve successful outcomes through initiatives that result in project completion and positive financial results.  Your ability to drive order and create value by addressing root cause analysis will result in the scalability and desired business outcomes that prepare Special Power Sources for continued hypergrowth.

The life cycle of your projects, at a high level, will be:  Dive into a problem, team, or initiative as an internal consultant, asking questions to learn everything you can about the subject. Remove constraints and use non-incremental thinking to determine how to frame the engagement such that the project can deliver an order of magnitude greater impact. Execute on your plans, frequently doing things yourself as an individual contributor, and laying a solid foundation that can be built upon. Ensure that the project can be sustainable within the function or company without you – either by recommending hiring the right leader or by implementing processes that allow for its success into the future


  • BS degree in business, operations management or engineering required, Master’s degree preferred.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification desired.
  • 10+ years combined business operations and execution from a renewable energy industry standpoint or can be substituted for extensive experience in defense or commercial electronics technology arena. Must have extensive experience in project or program management, supply chain and/or quality functions.
  • At least 5 years working for a major defense, aerospace, or commercial entity with expertise in development of strategic operational frameworks and executive presentations.
  • Leadership experience with responsibility for business results in a fast-paced, multi-function environment.
  • Creative problem solver with proven results in improving processes in a product management, business operation and/or sales environment.
  • Ability to leverage data to perform root cause analysis and address the source of issues.
  • Proven ability to develop creative solutions that result in measurable transformative outcomes that reach beyond incremental improvements.
  • Strong collaboration skills and demonstrated ability to influence and execute effectively in a cross-functional environment.
  • Impeccable organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to apply effective change management principles and consider the human element of change.
  • A knack for being able to convey complex information and recommendations in a clear, logical, understandable manner to stakeholders at executive levels.
  • Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be a high integrity, team player with flexibility to meet the demands of changing business priorities.
  • Other duties as assigned to assist the operations team improve process flows, recommending steps to automation based on current equipment and processes.
